What Are Ceramides?

Ceramides make up 50% of the skin barrier

Ceramides are lipids (oils) found naturally in the skin and help support the skin barrier and retaining moisture in the skin. Making up 50% of the skin's lipied bi-layer, ceramides help strengthen the protective skin barrier. If ceramide levels are low, the skin's barrier can become compromised and can lead to dry, irritated skin.

Ceramides hydrate and strengthen skin

Ceramides help to strengthen the skin's natural barrier and keep moisture from escaping. Though ceramides naturally occur within the skin, levels can be decreased through external factors such as hot water, soap, certain chemicals, and other environmental factors.
